Metal Railings

These are the kinds of deck railings that work well for Vancouver Island-based homes. Aluminum railings are often believed to be superior to wood. You won’t need to repaint as often, they don’t rot, making them last longer than the typical wood deck railing, and they look great!

Aluminum powder-coated railings
Advantages: Appearance, long-lasting, zero maintenance; easy to clean.
Side mount or top mount railings
Advantages: The main advantage of side-mounted railings is you don’t have to put fasteners through the membrane. Side-mounted railings are less prone to leaks and add extra usable space that might be taken by other railing mount styles.
Top mount
Advantages: This style works well in certain situations where a side mount may not be feasible; for example, if a gutter or staircase is in the way. Top mount is used less frequently today but is still a viable installation option in certain situations where a sidemount may not be ideal.
Picket railings
Advantages: Aluminum Picket railings are the most inexpensive, simple, solid and safe option for your outdoor deck.

Advantages: Glass railings provide a beautiful aesthetic to your deck that prevents the interruption of glorious mountain, forest, and ocean views. Glass railings also provide a windbreak, providing better protection from the weather than other railing types.

Optional 6-foot glass railing options can provide enhanced windbreaks and fogged glass for privacy. Available for both side-mounted rails as well as top-mounted.
